She Was Going to Run a 5K. Then She Had a Better Idea.
Sometimes an idea takes on a life of its own.
While we were on a recent sister trip, Jeannie decided she was going to start training for a 5K.
It was something she'd been talking about doing before her most recent cancer diagnosis and treatment. Now, she was ready to come back to it.
But rather than sign up for some random 5K, Jeannie had another idea:
Why don't we just have our own?
And just like that, plans for Honor Every Step 5K began.
On Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, we'll gather in Poyen, Arkansas, for an untimed community walk/run benefiting the Caregivers Honors Foundation.
And because this is the Caregivers Honors Foundation, the event will be about more than completing 3.1 miles.
We're inviting participants to walk or run in honor of someone who made a difference during a cancer journey — the spouse who never missed an appointment, the friend who kept checking in, the nurse who offered comfort or the person who simply made sure you never felt alone.
You don't have to be a runner. There's no clock and no pressure. Walk it, run it or do a little of both.
Jeannie will be out there working toward her own 5K goal, and we'd love to have you alongside her honoring the caregivers who have make all the difference for those facing cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. The 5K begins at 8:30 a.m.
Every step tells a story. Every step honors a caregiver.
